Cyber Dragon SD, manga/Jump Promo, Legacy deluxe Edition and other Yugi-news

Lots of Yugioh-related product updates in the past few days, so let's recap it for you!

Cyber Dragon Structure Deck Content revealed

The Cyber Dragon Structure Deck is coming out this Thursday (non-US TCG) or Friday (US), so it was kind of obvious that the content would become leaked this week.

And so it did. Only 2 changes compared to its OCG counterpart, but what for changes. Heavy Storm and Transmodify are removed from the set and Machina Armored Unit plus Light of Redemption are added instead.

Glad for the removal of the forbidden Storm, but Transmodify being removed is a sad thing (though kind of expected, considering Lolkonami). Transmodify is still one of the money cards from Judgment of the Light (even though the only competitive deck that uses it is Infernity).

But look at it from the bright side: Another common reprint of Dimensional Prison, Trap Stun and Super Polymerization. Budget players will be pleased.

For the full content, see the Wiki page.

Nope! You won't see this one in this structure deck!"

Next manga/Jump Promo revealed

Last week (or so), the card effects of the next manga promo's were revealed.

  • The next Zexal Manga (volume 6) promo will be Number 52 Diamond Crab King. Its effect is kind of meh. It's a possible 3000 beat stick that can place itself to defense position after it attacks (and then becomes a 3000 defense wall). But with all the effect negation, this card might as well be a 0-attack attack target.
  • The next 5D's Manga (volume 7) promo will be Moon Flower Dragon - Black Rose (the manga counterpart of Black Rose Dragon). This card is a little more interesting. "When this card is Special Summoned OR when a Level 5 or higher monster is Special Summoned to your opponent's side of the field: Target 1 Special Summoned monster your opponent controls; return that target to the hand. You can only use the effect of "Moon Flower Dragon - Black Rose" once per turn.".
So instead of blowing everything to smithereens like its anime counterpart, this is a bouncy dragon. Interesting against synchro decks; less interesting when facing XYZ based decks, though.
  • Also, the next OCG V-Jump Promo's effect is revealed. It was already revealed to be a (legal) Dark Magician xyz (Dark Magician of Illusions). Now it's effect has been (partially) revealed. It's a rank 7 xyz, requiring 2 Spellcasters. By detaching an Xyz material, you can special summon a vanilla Spellcaster from your hand or deck. Also, when a Vanilla Spellcaster declares an attack, you can banish an opponent's monster. It's been clearly restricted to prevent abuse by Prophecies/DRulers, but now it's kind of a "meh" effect.
  • And (last but not least) for the TCG, the next Jump Promo is revealed. It's the long awaited Alternate Art of Blue-Eyes White Dragon, with original art by Kazuki Takashi. Some like it, others find it a waste of promo. I personally don't mind.

Nice new promo card artworks

First reveals for Premium Gold and Dragons of Legend

Last weekend Konami was at the International Toy Fair in Nurnburg (Germany) and a picture was taken of their upcoming products, including the next Gold Series and that highly speculated set, Dragons of Legend.

Not much on the Gold Series, safe the given name of the set (King of Bling, LMAO) and the fact it would once more contain the Egyptian Gods. People who are hoping for a shiny gold Quasar reprint, prepare a shot (#Quasarwaitinggame).

The Dragons of Legend has people hoping for the 3 Dragons from the "Waking the Dragons" story arc to see a legal print. And the cover of the booster really gets people revved up. It's nothing less than Dark Magician Girl, the Dragon Knight (seriously?).

How Konami is going to integrate these three dragons (Timaeus, Critias, and Hermos) in the game while they were only used as fusion material monster (with monsters, spells and traps none the less), I have NO clue. But I guess we'll see as more details are revealed.

Note: For people thinking Shooting Quasar Dragon is also a "Dragon of Legend", prepare a shot (#Quasarwaitinggame).

"Woo, I'll be a REAL Dragon Rider soon!"

Legacy of the Valiant Deluxe Edition

In a month, the Deluxe Edition of Legacy of the Valiant will be released. One box will be with Evilswarm monsters; the other will have Gravekeeper artworks.

And last week, a (blurry) picture was leaked that showed the foil cards inlcuded:

  • From Legacy: Sylvan Peaskeeper & Ghostrick Jackfrost (good choices!)
  • From Primal Origin: Sylvan Sproutcolyte and Bujin Decisive Battle (I dunno? They don't seem too good to me?).

Soon...?

  • No updates on Star Pack 2014, but considering its predecessor, it's better not to get your hopes up (no, certainly not Quasar. Though, if you still think so, prepare a shot (#Quasarwaitinggame)).
  • Astral Pack Four has been announced to be released this month. no clue about its content or its exact release date as of yet. But if I can predict a few card: any card that has a text that can be reworded into "Excavate". And who knows, another foil Lonefire Blossom? Or Quasar (lol, as if). You know the drill by now, right? (#Quasarwaitinggame).
  • And in a few weeks, Primal Origin will be released in the OCG (our May booster). Right now, about half of the set has been revealed; with the other half (and the frigging OCG World Premiere Cards) still left.

For those that didn't knew yet: The Quasar Waiting Game:
For each possible reprint that did NOT happen, take a shot.

Afterword

I'm still busy with my post about the YCS last weekend (are there any more posted decklists, safe those of ProWinston?). But you can still expect one this week.

Until next time, V out.

17 January 2013

Weeks of silence, and then: BAM! Massive updates!

Yu-Gi-Oh! product updates are weird. There's weeks where we get nothing or tiny bits of information and then, once in a few months, we get everything in the same week, both on OCG side and TCG side.

Since there have been so many updates in the past week, it's easy if some things might have slipped, so let me recapitulate it all for you

Cosmo Blazer Full set revealed (TCG)

First of news that came was obviously the full set content of Cosmo Blazer (TCG edition). obviously, since several European shops got their boxes on Tuesday to prepare for the sneak peek, some of them just couldn't wait and opened their stuff...

What was rumored came true: the OCG promo cards included in the set basically suck. Yeah, I only got 5/10 guesses right, but who would've guessed Cards like the Blackwings or Joan? Those cards have no bonds with this set or other upcoming releases and are so random.

Next to that, while we all expected bad TCG World Premiere cards (Bonfire Colossus gave us a sneak peek of how bad it could be), it's way better than expected. Noble Knight Medraut (funny how they use the Celtic name of Mordred) is good, Spell wall is good, Kickfire is really good and Abyssteus is Broken (seriously, dump a water monster (Dragoons) to special summon this card and search a Mermail? That's dead broken!)

"You play mermails? Take me! Take me!"

Cosmo Blazer - Card rarities (TCG)

Next to the unknown cardpool (081-099) being revealed, we also saw the card rarities being divided. And that's less good.

Basically, the Hazy Flames (notice the name change from Haze Beasts) are cheap dirt (woohoo! Rare Basilicock!), The Fire Fist fans won't have to offer up an arm and a leg to get their playsets of every good card (Tenki Rare is cool! Tiger King deserves to be UR). The players craving for other cards are screwed, though...

The Spellbooks have struck the record of becoming the most expensive deck ever (2 new supers and a secret rare! For real?) and they're not done getting support (even more secret rares in the next set?). And the good new Mermails are all foil as well. I don't think I even have to mention the rarity bump of Lightning Chidori (Lightning Plover) and Diamond Dire wolf (Dire Wolf Diawolf) to Ultra and Secret Rare (eek).

"I'm a Diamond Wolf and I deserve
a diamond-like foil! Awoooooo!"

More content revealed for Lord of the Tachyongalaxy (OCG)

While the set isn't due until next month, more content has been revealed.

Still no news on the WIND Elemental lord, but this set will also have an elemental Dragon of each attribute. The effects aren't quite clear apparently, because they tend to vary depending on the source I read it from. And while one source gives it a good effect, the Wikia source gives it a mediocre one. What to make of this...?

Also interesting is Sacred sword of the Seven, which appears to be Trade-in for Lv 7 monsters (but banishing instead of sending it to the grave).

Next to that, most anime cards that will get a real card are known, including a decent Gogogo monster (I'm really going to make that Go-Zombie deck now)

And finally: Prophecies, Mermails and Fire Fists get more support (yeey). But Madolches gain support as well, which surprised me, because of their absence in Abyss Rising. And it's good support.

"Hoot! Have some cake and listen to the story
about how people wanted more Madolche cards..."

First cards of the OCG starter deck 2012 revealed

While I expected Gauntlet Warrior to be in the Starter deck, it's in the Tachyongalaxy instead. What did the starter deck get instead? Utopia, lord of reprints! And a new upgrade for Utopia, upgradable with a Barian Force card (Seriously? I thought Barian was the enemy of Yuma?)

"For those that didn't get a chance to pick me up in any of the last 7 prints,
here's another reprint!"

Hidden Arsenal 7 (TCG) gets an official date

TCG players are so looking forward to it. This set is getting even more hype than the infamous Hidden Arsenal 4 (which means one thing, pre-order this before it's sold out). The date? Don't forget it! April 19th! And yes, the set will contain all 70 cards!

"In just a few months, I will be EVERYWHERE!"

Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal manga Volume 4 comes out in February (in OCG)

While Volume 3 (with Nr. 22 Franken) is coming in the US in June, February will see the release of Volume 4 in Japan. The promo will be Nr. 47 Nightmare Shark (the numbers card Shark has in the manga). And trust me, if you play water decks, you might want to check out its effect...

"Want do attack directly?
If you're a water monster, I'll allow it!"

New Jump promo's

The New Jump Alpha promo was (finally) announced last week (Number 88: Gimmick Puppet of Leo, in case you didn't catch that news).

In OCG-land, there's also a new Jump promo... and it's a Harpie monster (cheer, you fanboys, cheer!). The name is Harpie Dancer and it gives a nice sync between Mist Valley monsters (bounce effects) and Harpies. Hmmm, interesting...

"Hey boys, check out my dance moves."

Afterwords

Wow, man... That was a lot of news in just a few days.

Next week, after the sneak peeks, I'll give you my thoughts about the full Cosmo Blazer set. In the meantime, If you want to know what cards to look forward to, check my first post about Cosmo Blazer and my post about splashable FIRE cards.

And in a few weeks, when Tachyongalaxy is out, I'll give you the cards to look forward to.

Until next time, V out.

V in Japan - Day 4

Day 4: Akihabara

  • Date: October 16
  • Weather: sunny
  • Mood: Energetic

Going to Akihabara

We decided that (as anime fans) we had to spend at least 1 full day in Akihabara, and that day was today. We got up early, took the subway to the nearest JR station and then hopped on the train to Akihabara.

Yaaaawn... Okay, maybe it was a little too early...

When we got out of the train station, we were welcomed by this famous girl.

We decided to eat breakfast at the curry place just next to the station. It’s always risky to order a meal via tiny pictures on a vending machine, but we tried our luck anyway. I had rice-curry with hamburger. It was amazing; I really, really love rice-curry. Steven ended up having a spicy rice-curry that ended up being a bit too strong for his stomach.

Believe it or not, this was GOOD!

The Sega Store

After breakfast, we entered the Sega building from the second picture. We got some toys (One Piece stuff) from the Capsule Toy vending machines (edit: they're called gashapon according to Chris), tried the games and had lots of fun.

We experienced a rhythm/drumming game (don’t mind the weird name: “kiss kiss bang bang”) and one of the many music games. Several games had a waiting line (the Project Diva games and the new Initial D race game, for example), so we skipped those.

And yes, we did spend a few hours in here. It was six floors of pure fun!

Apparently Francis filmed Steven and me playing Kis Kiss Bang Bang. I haven't seen the result yet (:-P)

Visiting the Rest of Akihabara

After finishing the Sega store, we walked around and visited many stores of anime/manga stuff, card games, electronic gadgets and everything an anime fan could dream of.

We even walked through a street with electronic parts… I mean real electronic components. Resistors, conductors, wires, tools, analyzers, everything an electronics techie could dream of. I know a few friends who could get their own kind of nerdgasm in here.

We also spotted maids. Girls, dressed up as maids, trying to get some customers to their maid café. The voice in which they do it is nearly begging (but mostly annoyingly high pitched). When you try to take pictures of them, they quickly turn around and ensure they're not on camera. But Francis did manage to film one of them (didn't get any of his films yet, sadly enough). We didn’t visit any maid café ourselves, since we heard/read many negative comments about it (the general reaction was: not worth the time/money).

After sunset (around 6 PM or so), the number of screaming maids increased (a serious pain in the ear), our wallets got emptier and we wanted to go back during rush hour (to experience the rush hour in the trains). It was very crowded, but still not impossible.

If you believe Akihabara ads, the Project Diva games and Persona 4 are the hottest things right now!

Results of the shopping spree

Once back at K’s House, we took out what we bought. I got myself a wine glass of Fate Zero, several figurines of varied sizes, including: Gin (Gintama), Dracule Mihawk, Usopp, Camie and a mini-Roronoa Zoro (One Piece), Lelouch Lamperouge and Suzaku (Code Geass), Haruhi Suzumiya (of the named series), Claus F. lester (Tales of Phantasia), a mini-Erza Scarlett (Fairy Tail), a mini-Kurapika (Hunter X Hunter) and a mini Black Snow Princess (Accel World). I also got a statue of Majestic Star Dragon, some H.C. Excalibur sleeves (Yu-Gi-Oh!) and a deck box from Accel World.

Steven didn't buy much (he's not really that much of an anime fan). Francis found a few glasses as well, a poster or two, a few doujins, some other stuff and a pillow of Shirahoshi, while being in Megalo the Shark (from One Piece). I thought it was hilarious.

Dinner and drinks

For dinner, we originally intended to go to some Udon restaurant on the map, but during the walk we decided to enter a random (family-run) Japanese Restaurant.

Due to the random entry, we obviously had some trouble to make ourselves understandable, but it was okay in the end. They only had a limited card, but we had Rice with a Roast Beef and some veggies.

We then bought some drinks at the 7/11, drank them at K’s House (with Miya-chan, again) and went to bed.

Tips for visiting Japan - Akihabara

Akihabara is big and thé place to be for all things manga/anime-related. If you know of, or have heard of certain shops in Akihabara, get the address and note it down, together with Google maps directions. If you don't, you won't find it. Akihabara is big enough to spend the entire day without noticing the shop/location YOU wanted to visit.

For example, I knew there was an arcade that has the infamous "Flip the Table" game, but I was unable to find it due to forgetting to print out the Google-maps directions. Kind of regret that in retrospect.

Also, as previously mentioned, don't visit maid cafés. They're tourist/nerd traps. They cost a lot and (according to the opinion of many people who did went there) it's so not worth the money.
